Where there is rubbish there is money

At the beginning of Covid in March 2020 many of the residents of Vaalwater were complaining about the ugly recycling facility on the left-hand side of the main road before you entered VaalwaterThis is what it looked like then:

Before

After

We contacted the owner and discussed the situation with him.  He explained his needs and with the help of Dr Peter Farrant we found him the ideal property.  Although the owner of the business is from Lephalale he saw the benefits of investing in the Vaalwater economy and six months later he bought the property.  He improved the property by painting the buildings and covering the perimeter with shade cloth so that it is not an eyesore.  It is now situated on the road that runs parallel and to the south of the main road between NTK and the old station.

The owner brought in a professional manager and introduced systems and procedures.  When it was time for him to return to Lephalale they approached us about hiring a very capable young man who had worked for us and had been sent to the PPGI Advanced Leadership program.  He slotted right in and has been running the business for the past fifteen months.

The best part of the story is that the business has gone from strength to strength and now more than three thousand people are earning money and putting food on the table while helping Vaalwater to clean up the community.

Well done Jo Sathekge!
