Afrika Tikkun and the Waterberg Community

Waterberg Development Initiative is the chosen Ambassador for Afrika Tikkun in the Waterberg District.  Afrika Tikkun Outreach Movement (ATOM) is the newly established division within the Afrika Tikkun Group, tasked with scaling the AT Cradle2Career model and interventions nationally.

The top three priorities of this mandate are:

  1. To expand the Afrika Tikkun’s reach nationally.
  2. Develop a Partnership model: Scale the full Afrika Tikkun C2C model through partners/partnerships.
  3. Establish a Think-Tank of like-minded experts and role players for continuous dialogue on impact and systemic change.

Our work so far in Vaalwater Community

Baseline Assessment 

Baseline Assessment conducted in 25 Organizations, 9 ECD Centers and 16 other organizations. The assessments covered Compliance and governance, Finance and Admin, Procurement, HR, Marketing, Infrastructure, OPS and others.

MS (Mobilising Support) Training

A 5-day training programme was offered to 4 ECD Centre’s, 3 Practitioners, and 3 Principals.  The training is to empower participants with knowledge and skills necessary for planning and implementation of a mobilising support plan.

 Microsoft Global Skills Initiative

Microsoft Global Skills Initiative South Africa has partnered with The South African Public Service Sector Education and Training Authority (PSETA) and Afrika Tikkun Services (ATS) to offer free online learning opportunity to 50 000 job seekers. Candidates who complete the training receive a Microsoft certification.

The following Learning Pathways/Courses were offered for free.

Project Manager, Graphic Designer, Financial Analyst Sales, Development Specialist, Data Analyst Software Developer, Customer Service Specialist, Network Administrator and Digital Marketing Specialist IT support/Help desk technician. 3 Certified Facilitator were trained, and we had 6 Certified Students.

Eye-Screening

162 kids were screened from 7 ECD Centre’s to identify potential eye complications in children with the aim of referring children to specialists for diagnoses and resolve.  Of these 142 passed and 20 were referred for further treatment.

 

 

 

Community mapping

Community asset mapping and spatial mapping was conducted on the 2 June 2022 to understand the community, key role players, critical issues, and opportunities to determine first interventions and critical relationships. In addition, spatial mapping creates the opportunity to communicate further investment/funding/development opportunities.




Afrika Tikkun ECD Interventions

ECD Content (ATB ECD Curriculum) with assessment support (quality control)

Afrika Tikkun employed and trained an ECD Trainer who will provide support to ECD’s with the implementation of the curriculum.  Twelve ECD Centre’s have trained on the Curriculum to date. The following items were given to ECD Center’s: Tablets and ATB ECD Resource kit provided to each Centre.

Afrika Tikkun also provided the assessment support to our ECD Centre’s.

AT conducted a Finance and Marketing Workshop for our 5 ECD Centre’s on the 26 & 27 September 2022

ECD Teacher Skills development (NQF Levels 4/5/6)

The preparation for training the Practitioner on ECD NQF Levels is ongoing.

An Infrastructure service has been offered to 5 ECD Centre’s.
